Do you have an anti-fat bias? Maybe you openly criticize or subconsciously judge. Do you know a sure-fire fix? Or do you struggle with weight issues?
One of the great sports rivalries was between to famous boxers, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. Frazier…

Being an office dweller means I have to be intentional in finding opportunities to move. An ideal way to add more movement is with family time. I love spending time playing with my kids and I don’t mean on the Wii, PS3, or Xbox. I mean getting outside…

I recently ran across an article talking about muscle confusion and the importance of varying your workouts. The problem with this training approach is it doesn’t allow for the full adaptive benefit of a particular cycle. I am a big believer of…

Today we have a Guest post from Chris Brown (he has written a post for us before on muscle burn out) Chris writes about all aspects of training and nutrition for gaining/maintaining muscle. Today’s article is on the role fish oil plays in building muscle. Grow More Muscle With Fish Oil! Many persons are ignorant about the importance of fish oil in building muscle. This is unfortunate because they will be missing out on the tremendous muscle boosting benefits it could provide them. Fish oil contains essential fatty acids which are substances the body cannot produce by itself yet needs…

Training with unstable loads provides a ton of bang for the buck. An awesome tool for training with unstable loads is a sandbag. Sandbag training is tough, I mean kick your butt tough! The question is how do you incorporate them into your training. Today I am going to share a workout from the folks over at Ultimate Sandbag Training. I look at training through a Circular Strength Training lens. Which is one of the reasons I love the Ultimate Sandbag because of all the training potential to meet any performance goal with multi-plane movement. So you may be wondering how…

How many of you have been guilty of “rubbernecking” (if you are driving and you slow down to “rubberneck” at the accident)? That curiosity to look as you drive isn’t only limited to the car. My newest rubbernecking has been online…I can get lost on Fiverr.com. For those of you that don’t know, Fiverr is a website where people will list what they will do for five bucks. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great deals/offers, but there are also some serious train wrecks. So in honor of what sadly to admit has become a little bit of a…
It still amazes me how many superfoods are out there (including several that I have posted about previously). So it makes you wonder what does it mean to call something a superfood? Simply stated a superfood is a food that is really healthy, which using this definition would make an incredibly long list. Let’s cut through the marketing hype and give some guiding principles to what qualifies as a superfood. Here is a great list for defining a superfood: Nutrient Density - even though there are multiple definitions about what makes the grade as a…

It has been a while since I posted a Workout Wednesday edition. Life has been busy as I am sure it is for you. Poor excuse, so I am asking your forgiveness. Family and the day job have been keeping me running around so I have been squeezing in workouts when I can. I completed a 28 day cycle of Alberto Gallazi’s TacFit Survival and my core is solid like a tree trunk now. Whenever I finish a 4x7 training cycle I like to clean the slate for a while and mix in some other training. That is why today’s workout…

I love training at home. I can do what I want, listen to the music I want, I don’t have to take a bunch of gear with me, and a BIG bonus is that I don’t have to worry about picking up MRSA in the shower. The one downside is during the winter months I am only working out in the basement where I have built my home gym. Yesterday was a breath of fresh air as we are now in that awesome time of transition between Spring and Summer when the weather becomes nice outside…and that means I can…

The last five months I have been living in a state of fatigue…my five month old twin newborns have been a huge blessing to my wife and I. They have also provide a great opportunity for spiritual endurance training. They suffer from a host of food intolerances. So imagine being up every 1 to 1.5 hours trying to comfort a baby with serious intestinal distress and you can’t stop the crying (for any of us;) . Not only does this impact the stress level in the house, but it also impacts our body’s ability to deal with the added stress and…

Last week I posted about the power of introverts and how as an introvert, I train my mental health. Spring arrived with a blast of warm weather for most of us in the States. Spring reminds us that summer is around the corner which brings shorts and swimsuits with it. Do you want to feel more healthy, but there is an internal battle holding you back? HOW I got healthier inside and out. This post covers ideas on emotional health, which had a huge impact on my ability to stay in shape and live a healthy lifestyle. At the…

Today’s edition of Workout Wednesday comes from a couple of CST/TacFit coaches that happen to be actual firefighters by day and have appropriately named their site TacFit FireFighter. For the last couple months my training has focused on preparing for the upcoming Circular Strength Training certification seminar in Washington. I have been primarily working on the 3 main Clubbell exercises (last weeks post shows the 3 exercises) required to pass the certification and FlowFit level 3 exercises also a requirement. This laser focused training has started to become a bit of a grind… Since I have been…
Clubbell Trial by Fire: High Intensity Training Day Welcome to another edition of Workout Wednesday. The March Circular Strength Training seminar is quickly approaching and I have been really focusing my training on the required Clubbell Trial by Fire certification exercises. So today’s workout is directly related to the three exercises required for CST certification: Clubbell Swipes, Clubbell Mills, and Clubbell Hammer Swings. The sets and repetitions I borrowed from John Sifferman, CST Coach over at physicalliving.com. So first things first is always to perform a thorough warm up, preferably doing joint mobility drills right out of…

MRT or for those of us that have too many acroynms to remember…metabolic resistance training requires a mop to wipe yourself off the floor when you are done. MRT done right requires a maximum effort exercise output that yields fat torching, muscle building, effects in a minimal training time. Metabolic resistance training kicks your metabolism into high gear, which will burn calories long after the workout is finished. Plus you will be pushing your lactate threshold. The benefits of metabolic resistance training are numerous, but what exactly is it and why should you care? What is Metabolic Resistance Training? Simply stated MRT covers the blending…
Today’s edition of Workout Wednesday is a workout from Smitty of Diesel Strength and Conditioning for developing a seriously big back that is strong to boot. This workout helps correct that forward hunching posture we have developed from countless hours sitting at our desks. I don’t know about you, but the start of 2012 has required me to be working at the desk longer than I would like. Then combine that with having to carry and bounce newborns when I get home. I am fighting a hunched over posture so I keep an eye out for workouts…
Clubbell Mills for lunch? On a Snow Day? It seems that each day life becomes more hectic. How many people are trying to juggle family responsibilities with work responsibilities and still leave time to exercise? I can totally relate to having a demanding job and balancing family life…I have 3 kids under two and half years in age (extra stressful with 3 month old twins). I appreciate the struggle with time and exhaustion and then the last thing you are thinking about is exercising. HOWEVER, I am here to tell you that you can squeeze in exercise throughout the day. …
